Australian Shepherds and Miniature American Shepherds are wonderful dogs full of energy and devotion... they love their family and are happiest spending time with them. It can be anything from competing in agility or canoeing down the river or just a daily game of fetch in the park. They live for your companionship and need you to make room for them in your daily life. In return your dog will be one of your best friends and return your love.
We are have a small breeding program that has emphasis on producing puppies that can go to families who want to do everything from herding, jumping thru agility courses, jetting thru flyball, summersaulting for frisbee, hiking thru the trails, traveling buddy and most of all one of your best and devoted companions. Herding and agility is the main focus for our breeding program but our puppies also excell at being your best buddy! Our dogs are registered in NAMASCUSA, and are entering AKC as Miniature American Shepherds.

The Miniature American Shepherd was recently recognized in May of 2011 by the American Kennel Club, and entered Miscellaneous on June 27th, 2012. Full recognition is expected in May 2014. Miniature American Shepherds are now eligible to compete in AKC Herding trials, Agility trials, Obedience and Rally.
The breed was formed by a split of the Australian Shepherd breed in AKC, and the incorporation of dogs previously known as Miniature Australian Shepherds and also known as North American Shepherds. The Miniature American Shepherd Club of the USA (MASCUSA) is the parent club for the Miniature American Shepherd and was originally known as the Miniature Australian Shepherd Club of the USA, and then the North American Miniature Australian Shepherd Club of the USA, and was founded in 1990 as the original parent club for the Miniature Australian Shepherd.
The move to have these dogs recognized by AKC and to be further developed as Miniature American Shepherds is a monumental era in the history of these dogs. They will have a bright and permanent future in AKC and can compete alongside their fellow herding breeds in AKC Herding events and will be a big influence in both the performance and companion events offered by AKC. The Miniature American Shepherd will now be seen at many different AKC venues and will be working toward the day they are to be fully recognized and entered in the AKC Conformation shows.

Miniature American Shepherds from Latigo Farms
Falina recently passed the first leg of her AKC Herding Instinct test, held on June 9th 2012 at just 6 months of age. She will be staying here at Latigo Farms and will be trained for herding, agility and therapy dog services!
